Clarecastle were crowned Minor B Football Champions on Saturday with a one point victory against Éire Og in Gurteen.
Magpies started the first half in blistering fashion with points from Harry Doherty (2), Rhian Sheridan, Oisin Whelan, Conor Griffin and Cian O’Dell to push the lead to four points at the break. Half Time Score Clarecastle: 0-6 Éire Óg: 0-2.
Harry Doherty opened the second half with his third point while Éire Óg responded with 3 points without reply to leave it a 3 point game with 15 mins remaining. In the 16th minute a excellent passage of play from Evan Price into Cian Enright rattled the back of the Éire Og net for the first goal of the game followed by a second point from Rhian Sheridan.
With just four minutes remaining it was Éire Óg who pushed hard scoring a further 2 points and a goal in the 30th minute. Five minutes of added time it was Clarecastle’s excellent defensive display that helped their side to hold on to a one point victory.
After the game the cup was presented by Martin Frawley on behalf of the County Board to the victorious winning captain Mark Griffin. Mark thanked the management team of Decky, Ken, Brian, Frankie and Tommy, Secretary Louise and Chairman Niall for their commitment to the team, Robert Harte referee for his handling of the game and last but not least the Éire Og team for contributing to a excellent game of Football.
