Hard luck to Clarecastle/Ballyea who lost out by two points in a closely contested encounter with Scariff/Ogonnelloe in the opening round of the Camogie Championship this evening in Clarecastle.
Scariff/Ogonnelloe opened the scoring with an early point before Clarecastle/Ballyea responded with a well taken goal from Aoibhin Corbett to take a two point lead. Scariff/Og replied with a goal of their own to edge ahead by one.
The sides traded scores through the first half with Aoibhin Corbett converting two frees for Clarecastle/Ballyea to bring the teams level and then edge her side in front again.
However, Scariff/Og finished the half strongly with their second goal from play taking a two point lead into the break.
In the second half, Aoibhin Corbett added another free for Clarecastle/Ballyea before Ivanna Costello struck for a crucial goal to put them ahead by one.
Scariff/Og converting two late frees to gain the lead. A final point from play deep into added time sealed the win for the East Clare side.
