We’re only days away from the start of a new playing season, bringing with it a fresh sense of optimisim and enthusiasm in all four codes.
The competitive action was due to start last weekend with the start of the Under 21 Camogie Championship. However Clarecastle/Ballyea’s preliminary round match against Feakle/Killanena has been postponed until further notice.
Therefore, Clarecastle’s season will commence this Saturday when their hurling counterparts will begin their Under 21B Championship with a preliminary round against Broadford in Tulla at 2.30pm while the Under 16 ladies footballers start their Division 2 Championship away to Burren Gaels on Sunday.
The Under 16 male footballers were originally scheduled to begin their championship this Saturday as well but due to the unavailability of pitches after the recent inclement weather, the first round of the Under 16 Division 1 and 2 Championships have been deferred for a week and therefore their home match against St Breckan’s in the top tier will now take place on Saturday, March 18th.
In the meantime, there’s plenty to focus on as the adult hurling and football league fixtures were revealed this week. The senior hurlers’ return to the top tier of the Clare Cup is greeted by a juicy opening home derby against Newmarket-on-Fergus on the first weekend of April.
The same weekend the intermediate hurlers commence their Division 2 League campaign with a home tie against Parteen while the Junior hurlers will have to wait until the May bank holiday weekend for their opening round of the Division 5B League away to Tulla.
The adult footballers are first to get their league campaign underway when they host Coolmeen in the opening round of the Division 6 League on Sunday, March 19th.
Please note that these fixtures are subject to change, so watch this space for updated details of dates, times and venues.
