![]() Junior B Football Championship Group 4 Round 1 Kildysart 2-7 Clarecastle 1-3 at Ballynacally In the end, Kildysart's superior experience came to the fore to see off a brave effort from Clarecastle on Saturday. The weather was hardly conducive to flowing football and as a result, it was a stop-start affair that rarely reached the heights of the sides last meeting in the league. That said, Clarecastle still had eye-catching performances from captain Ger Ward and centre-back Eric Flynn while Shane Callinan, Darragh Moloney, Fergal Griffin, and Donnagh Murphy ran tirelessly for the hour in an effort to get the Magpies back into the game. The scores never came however despite owning the ball for the last quarter but realistically the damage was done early in the second half when Kildysart hit 1-3 without reply. Kildysart also got off to the perfect start in this game with an early goal but Clarecastle responded well and when Alan Considine was fouled close to goal, Donnagh Murphy caught the defence unawares and drilled a 14 metre free to the net. Kildysart hit four points in as many minutes but a Darragh Moloney solo point and a superb long range effort from Michael O'Donoghue cut the deficit to just two points at the break at 1-4 to 1-2. Clarecastle failed to build on that in the second half however and missed chances along with a poor final ball meant that they were unable to make a dent into the Kildysart lead. Their next outing will be a must-win game against St Senan's Kilkee who were comprehensively beaten by Crusheen at the weekend.
