![]() Congratulations to Patrick Kelly who capped off a wonderful twelve months by adding a second Fitzgibbon Cup winners medal to the All-Ireland Under 21 championship medal he garnered last September. Kelly was one of NUIG's key performers in both the semi-final and final, both of which were titanic struggles that were only won by a single point after extra-time. While Kelly was the hero in Saturday's semi-final against LIT by scoring the winning point, this time it was another Clareman John Conlon (Clonlara) who took that honour with a late winner against WIT in Pearse Stadium. That victory looked unlikely early in the second period of normal time when the hosts found themselves eight points behind but a Caimin Morey goal initiated the recovery and only secured a draw with an injury-time Seamus Hennessy (2008 Tipperary Under 21 captain) point to force extra-time. Ironically, Patrick earned his first Fitzgibbon Cup medal whilst played for Saturday's opponents WIT in 2008. Well done from all at Clarecastle GAA. |
